Hey guys, just quickly updating our blog, so u know what we've been up to! After our stint in Belgrade, we headed to Macedonia, Skopje - capital city. We looked around Macedonia and saw fishermen fishing in the river, (which Aliya later illegally waded into ;) gigggles!) We had a look around the markets, sampled some of their foods and walked along the riverside. The weather was gorgeous and the people so friendly. We were supposed to get a train to Greece in the evening, BUT we found all teh trains weere full, we already bookeds accomodation for Greece, so we HAD to be there, major dileema style, after a bit of a panic, we consulted the travel bible (lonely planets) which suggested a TAXI ride, to Thessaloniki, North Greece, so we later arranged for a taxi to drive us all the way to North Greece, so we drove thru the wqhole of MAcdeonia, wicked :)
So in short, we spent the morning in Serbia, the afternoon in Macdeonia and by evening we were in Greece, beat that guys! ;)
When we arrived, we found our hostel straightway and we were SO HAPPY! We saw fresh beds, hot showers, shampoo, air conditioning clean towels, it wazs HEAVEN!!!!!! Makes u really appreciate showers, beds and the small little things in travelling :) after a gorgeous shower and cleanse, headed for a meal pout , which was simple but lovely . The next days in T, we looked around, had Greek buffets, shopping, went to the seafront, walked tjhru the town and jus explored.
On tuesday we got the six hour train journey to Athens, when we arrived , due to Philippa's marvellous map reading we found our hostel with NO probelms, thumbs up Philla :D We've been in Athnes for 2 nights so far, writing this on our third night, in the last two days, we have been to see most of the Historical Monuments including the Temple of Zeus, Acropolisis (sp?!!) and other crumbly old buildings with great historcial significance :P hahaa ! We've been shopping, (AGAIN!!) and swimming in the beach south Athens, sunbathing, we just had a drink or two in our hotel bar but we r saving our energy for tomorrow night for Laura's leaving do, giggles, we're gonna have such fun ;) :D
the weather here is absolutely BOILING< sweat patches everywhere!!! BRILLAINT news we finally washed our clothes today, LOVELY clean clothes, AHHHHH!!!!! :D BLISS :D :D :D
Off to bed now, night guys! :) We'll update this when we can, keep leaving messages :) Lots of love and kisses from the girls xxx
UPDATE:
...we definitely did a good job of saving our energy for Laura's last night - we partied away till 6am!
After a delicious meal in town, we decided to check out the bar inside the hostel and were surprised to find plenty of people inside already. The previous night it was quiet so it was a treat to find so many lively people!
Not long after we came into the bar, a man kept raising his glass and shouting "YAMAS!!!", whilst everyone else followed and took a gulp of their drink. Hmm... what was going on??? After we explained to the "YAMAS!"** bloke (who turned out to be a guy called George) that we were all Deaf, he suddenly became Deaf aware and explained everything to us, trying to learn some signs along the way.
They were playing some drinking games - the old classic - higher or lower card game. If you win, you pick someone else to drink, but if you lose, you have to drink! George was insistent that everyone in the bar had to sign higher, lower, red, or black (for picking cards), so this was brilliant to see!
Several shots and drinks later... we were all dancing with *very drunk* travellers from all over the world. Swiss, Aussie, Canadian, British, Estonian, Greek.... people from all over the world in a small Athens hostel bar!
At 6am we were the last people in the bar and finally fell into bed not long later. It was nice to just sleep upstairs rather than have to catch a bus all the way home like in London!
See the photographs from the night in our album :)
** We soon realised YAMAS is Greek for "Cheers"!
