Surfers Paradise
Surfers Paradise was a bit of a let down when we first arrived, the place was really touristy- a city full of high rise buildings, holiday resorts and trashy stores darted with a few designer ones. I don't think it helped that we had put so much pressure on ourselves to stay there for a month and find jobs, there simply weren't any jobs for us to get! However, as the week went on the place grew on us, we met loads of people and it began to feel like home!
The first night we chilled at the hostel after spending the entire day looking for jobs. A few of the girls from Oz Intro were there which was so cool. We all keep bumping into each other along the way, each time with more exciting stories to share with each other! The next night we went out with the entire hostel to a club called bedroom. It was such a good night and we all got to know people from the hostel really well. We even got friendly with an Aussie chef, who came in handy because we ended up getting cooked for every night with the entire hostel, it was like we all one big family! He even cooked us a roast dinner to remind us of home! The people definitely made the place what it was! The hostel was also pretty cool, there was a huge kitchen and a TV room where u could just chill and save money on going out!
On the Monday we all got up early and went to movie world. It was so much fun and I even conquered a huge fear and went on a vertical ride just like the Play station. I hated it and damaged my jaw from gritting my teeth so much but at least I got on it! The park was really cool there were rides for all sorts of films. I think the best was the western log flume which soaked us from head to toe; it also didn't help when Wade was splashing us from the back of the boat before the ride had even stared! It was such a hot day though so we were glad to cool down for a while! The further we go up the coast the hotter it gets, its reached 42 degrees some days! Another highlight of the day was the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory shop where we had to all buy a Wonka bar- it was so cool!
The next night after another day of job searching we went out on 'ladies night'. There was a place called sin city where all drinks were free for girls. We couldn't understand how they made money from it, but enjoyed ourselves on their behalf! We grabbed our free drinks and headed to a place called Melba's with the hostel crowd again! It was so nice to be in a place where we all knew lots of people again, but because there were no jobs, we had made the decision to move up the coast and try elsewhere which was a little sad leaving everyone.
We spent our last day at Wet N Wild which was awesome. There were wave pools, lazy rivers, whirlpools and so many slides, we had a very busy day but it was so much fun, and definitely cheered us all up after spending hours searching for job!
Overall, Surfers was awesome and definitely surprised me! After the first day I was ready to leave but I am so glad I didn't, it just got better and better!
