After an uneventful flight from Singapore we arrive in Dubai in the dark. We grab a taxi as we are off to Abu Dhabi. We were originally booked to fly straight to Abu Dhabi but Singapore Airlines decided after we had booked & paid for it that they weren't going to fly to Abu Dhabi any more. Hence the taxi. Girl taxi driver! Things are beginning to look up for the women of the East. We hurtle through the amazing concrete & glass jungle of Dubai off into the desert via a well lit 4 lanes each way dual carriage way at 120k's with vehicles screaming past at a lot more. Stories of taxis tearing across the desert at over a 100mph are things of the past - the driver tells us her taxi has a governor on it. Phew! So are tales of 50 US dollars paying the bill - cost now is 340 dirhams (about £58). One and a half hours later we arrive at the Sheraton Hotel feeling tired and decidedly scruffy for such a posh hotel. We sign in and although its only nine pm it's one am Singapore time so we tumble into bed. We have slept in so many different beds since we have been away that the first night no sleep syndrome doesn't occur any more.
