Today we decided to take a sightseeing boat trip on the river. We took the underground again to the Harbour area, and after walking for an absolute age in broiling humid heat we find a boat stop and duly board the boat and settle down to hear the history and see the sights. Unfortunately the chatter of the other occupants drowned out most of the tape recording that didn't match what we were looking at anyway. All in all we weren't that impressed with the trip but it was nice to see Singapore while we were sat down.
Our next plan is to find the Sky Park, another new attraction. We set off walking and became grease spots yet again but with British stiff upper lip & all that we persevere and it starts to rain. Our remaining umbrella (Peter having lost track of his some countries ago) decided to give up the ghost. Lovely warm rain so we didn't care. We get to the 3 Towers that houses a huge Shoppes (their spelling) Mall, the Sands Hotel in each tower and on the very top, the Sky Park. After browsing the shops as one does we get to the Sky Park entrance and hurtle upwards 56 floors at a great rate in the lift and step out into the sky. I should add that the rain had stopped soon after we reached the Mall. We wander around the viewing area taking photos and generally marvelling at the vistas. The viewing platform is only a small section of the Sky Park, the rest being given over to the Hotel Facilities like a swimming pool where the water falls over the edge of the pool into a trough so that it must seem like swimming at the top of a waterfall. There is also a restaurant where the general public can book and eat while viewing the lights etc. of Singapore at the same height as the top of a skyscraper. We couldn't decide if we were higher or lower than the Empire State Building, must google it sometime. Mean while thunder was rumbling around and the sky was getting blacker & blacker, then the heavens opened with a vengeance so we were all forced to abandon the platform and return to earth! One very friendly little local told us we were entitled to our money back as we had to abandon because of the weather. So freeview takes on a new meaning.
