Arriving on Gili T after a ride on the roof of the fast boat and we were back in travellerland (or on the banana pancake trail). No cars or motorbikes on the Gilis, just bicycles and horse drawn carriages which, after some of the traffic jams in Kuta, is wonderful.
Found ourselves a place to stay after a bit of work... moved the next day, and then moved again (to an air con room!!!) Immediately got ourselves booked in for some diving - in total we did 5 dives - some were fantastic - the favourite being the final dive at Shark Point where we saw a white tip and a black tip reef shark and so many turtles I lost count! We dived with some lovely people at Blue Marlin. Our favourite DM/Instructers were Emma and Ivan without a doubt and I now have a whole host of new underwater signals!!! Blue Marlin Dive is a "tech" dive school - the English guy who owns the place, Simon, has the record for the deepest dive (over 150m) and one of the instructers, Will, has the record for being underwater for the longest time (48 hours!!!) On all our dives there were people doing all manner of rebreathing/trimix/nitrox dives - personally looks like a lot of gear just to go deep!
On Saturday we had a day off diving and went over to Gili Meno (the neighbouring island) for a day of relaxing on the beach and snorkling. I saw 2 turtles just off the beach. One evening we went down to the reggae beach bar at the far end of the island to watch the sunset and another evening went up to Karma Kayak for tapas, sangria and sunset with a different backdrop! To complete our sunset views yesterday after diving we sadled up and went for a horse ride along the beach!
At night the island comes alive to an extent and we did make it to the Wednesday night party at the Irish Bar where we met some fun guys and then Friday at Rudy's for Louise's birthday (one of the girls we were diving with). We managed to stay away from the mushrooms though.... For our final night we watched a movie in our own private beach hut. As I said firmly on the banana pancake route.
After a much rougher crossing back to Bali we're now in Amed looking forward to diving the Liberty wreck tomorrow.
