Day 4.....
Today we left Paris.
The care-taking who only speaks French calls us a taxi so we can head into the city to pick up our hire car. That was the easy bit!!
Axis car hire closed ring bell after 15mins finally someone arrives.
They then tell us our car isn't ready for one hour, we explain we have 6 hours of driving and can't wait.
Magically a car is available and we are transferred to another axis hire place.
We are given a automatically BMW car. No instructions they only speak French we set up our GSP which we brought from home curtesy of Martin and tackle the Parian traffic. Gillian in the drivers seat and my wind man Brian in the passenger seat we head off.
Getting out of Paris was pretty easy Siri was very good spot on.
Then the fun began first we arrived at the start of the toll and need to take a ticket easy one would say but I wasn't close enough to the ticket machine and had to get out of the car! The European car decides to stop the engine and I couldn't get it out of park which it automatically did when I released my foot from the accelerator.
Traffic was now backing up behind me and a couldn't do anything. There was a repairman fixing something that came to our rescue. We handed him to car manual to read but we only just realized the manual was in Italian and he had French no wonder he had no idea!!!! But he persisted and we managed finally to move on. Lots of beeping and hand waving wasn't to wish us well.
8 hours and 700 kms we finally at our destination only not to be able to find our accommodation. Reception closing at 7pm it is now 6.50pm and we ask several people who are not helpful finally we located them and all it good with the world.
Les Houches is beautiful ski resort in winter but just as beautiful in summer.
Dinner at a local French bistro ends another day and our first day in the road.
Tomorrow we head to Venice.
