Sorry for the delay in updating the blog - we have been very busy and the internet is expensive - however it is pouring with rain right now so thought we had better take a bit of time to update you all!
Tues 4th Nov - So the bus from cambodia to thailand was not as bad as we were expecting - there were no scams involved - just a lot of bus hopping - we were on 4 in total - and the road is a nightmare - pot hole galore so we had very sore bums at the end of it. we got in to bangkok around 6.30pm - as we were driving into bangkok the sun was setting - it was sooo amazing - a bright orange sky lighting up the bangkok skyline! anyway eventually found a guest house so we dumped bags, freshened up and hit Khao San Road (the main backpackery tourist road in Bangkok). We ended up bumping into the Irish lads we met in Vietnam so we spent the night in bars with them - we managed to stay up till around 2am then we had to call it a night as we had been up since 6.30am and couldnt really sleep on the awful journey - we always seem to have the best nights out when we dont plan to go out!
Wed 5th - we were woken up at 10.30 this morning with loud knocking on our door and a little guy shouting - we responded and he kept knocking - when i finally stumbled out of bed he wanted to know if we were staying another night and if so he wanted us to pay now! in some guesthouses they like you to pay for rooms in advance - but as you can imagine we were not impressed that he had woken us up like that. Neither of us managed to get back to sleep so felt pretty groggy all day. We were not in the mood for temples so we wandered up and down Khao San Road looking at all the stalls, buying bits and bobs! late afternoon we got chatting to a local lady and she took our lonely planet, drew all over it pointing to places to visit then grabbed a tuk-tuk for us - we visited some temples and a massive standing budda (46metres to be exact). Had a chilled out evening and an early night.
Thurs 6th - incredibly early start this morning - bus picked us up at 7am - we were off on a trip. The first stop was Kanchanaburi - it was a floating market - it was pretty cool - we were on little boats ourselves and were taken through the market to all the little stalls - the river was really busy so we often had to stop to let others past and were constantly banging into other boats. locals would hold a long pole out to you and if you held it they would pull the boat in so you could get a better look. econd stop was the museum and bridge over the River Kwai. there wasn't much to the museum so we walked accross the bridge - it wasn't until we were halfway across that we realised if we ahd tripped we would have been in the water as there was no safety barriers, netting of\r anything! oh well we survived. Next stop - the one we were most looking forward to - the Tiger Temple. To gain entry we had to cover up and were not allowed to wear bright colours. we also had to sign a disclaimer....then we were set to go! Walking through the grounds towards the tigers ew saw a real variety of animals frm dogs, ducks, deer, buffalo, pigs and cow (that was rather anorexic) As we walked down to the tiger area, we could see them all lying there with a tiger temple e,ployee beside it. to have our pics taken - one lady took your hand, the other one your camera and they took yo around to each tiger - it was really fab being so close and touching them but it was really sad seeing some chained up and they were all really sleepy - we thought they had been sedated but when asking an employee/volunteer they claimed that the tigers were just sleepy! we didnt quite agree though. After having photos with the big tigers we headed over to see the cubs - they were so cute and playful - and a lot fluffier than the big tigers. we even saw one of the monks in their orange robes feeding a cub with a milk bottle - it was adoreable. we returnd to bangkok around 7pm, headed out, had tea, some drinks and hit home around midnight.
Fri 7th - We were up at 10this morning as we had to be out of our room by 11 - we took out bags to the tourist office whom we booked our bus through and spent the days doing some errands, e.g. buying more suncream, visiting post office etc. Bus departed at 6pm for Chiang Mai - when we got on it though there were no balnkets as advertised, the tv didnt work and it was freezing as usual! so all in all we didnt have a good nights sleep as we were freezing (even though we had long trousers and a jumper on).
