So long since iv written on here but we have been busy having fun! So Sunday 7th we got the bus to kuala lumpur (KL) - we had booked a hostel in advance to try and get a cheap one - it was nice enough - staff were friendly which is always a good thing. That afternoon we went for a wander and in the evening went to view the famous Petronas Twin Towers all lit up at night - they look even more amazing than they do in pictures.
Mon 8th - we set our alarm for 8am this morning as you have to get to the petronas towers early to be allocated a viewing time. When we got outside though it was pouring with rain - we would see nothing if we went up the towers so saved that mini expedition for a sunny day. We treated ourselvwes to a starbucks for breakfast. we then headed to a shopping mall we had been at the [previous day as Gill needed to buy a new camera (hers broke in Thailand). We then headed to a market in Chowkit that the good old lonely planet recommended, but when we got off the monorail, we felt a little out of place, we were the only tourists aronud and the market was down some dodgy back alley - we stayed all of 5 mins and then headed back on monorail. We ended up in the Golden Triangle - a famous area in KL - lots of nice shops and hotels etc. We decided it was about time we got our hair cut and had seen hair dressers really cheap so we went in - our cut cost 4 pounds each - but we werent too impressed with their technique so just kept it to a little trim. We ended up in Times Square shopping mall - it was the biggest one i have ever seen - it had 13floors, 3 cinemas, millions of shops, awesome xmas decorations and................. a rollercoaster and theme park in it! it was pretty cool - we ended up in the cinema and watched Madagascar 2. On the seat next to gill, was a young couple with a tiny baby on thier lap - it was glued to the screen and didnt make a noise throughout - it was so cute. That evening we hit Petaling Street - a massive street market and had a nosey at what bargains were to be had and just chilled in the hostel common room that evening.
tues 9th - We had an extra hour in bed this morning just incase it was raining again. but it wasnt, it was nice and sunny. We got to Petronas towers and were given our time slot of 4.15pm. Again this shopping centre was cool but it was too nice a day to be inside so instead we wandered across town to the Menara tower - the worlds 4th ;larget telecommunications tower - the views over the city were fantastic - it was so clear you could see for miles. We bought our selves a little picnic and ate it in the gardens in front of the twin towers. We were begining to fewel like celebrities in KL as people kept coming up to us asking if they could have their picture taken with us - it was really funny - word was obviously getting around that we were in town! 4.15pm came around quite quickly - the skybridge is where you get to go in the towers to see the view and its on the 41st and 42nd floor - so not as high as the Menara tower but would still give you an amazing view and you were in the twin towers which was exciting in itself! anyway by the time we got onto the skybridgew it had started pouring with rain and you couldnt see a thing - soo typical, but didnt matter too much as we had had the views already. We went to Little India for tea and had another yummy curry. On the way home we went back via the Petaling market in Chinatown as i had seen a bag i wanted and some perfume - got them for bargain prices! Got back to hostel and watched the film 300 in the common aras.
Wed 10th - Let ourselves lie in this morning and woke up at 12pm. We had breakfast at hostel and then went to the local bus station. We caught the no. 11 to the Batu Caves and it only cost 2 ringgit - bargain! Was a 45 min journey to the caves. The Batu Caves are home to a Hindu temple - you have to climb 272 steps to enter them and each step is numbered! There is also a massive gold hindu god statue which was pretty impressive too. We had tea at a street market then people watched for a bit whilst we waited for Cliff and Lucy - a couple whom we had met in Cambodia and were meeting up with again. It was so lovely to see them again - felt like we have known them for years whereas in reality we spent 3 days with them in phnom penh. We went for some drinks and before we knew it, it was passed midnight and cliff and lucy had to be up early to catch onward transport, so we said our goodbyes.
Thurs 11th - Woke up at 12 again - oops - it wasnt such a biggie but we had planned to do things today. after brekkie we headed to the central market - we spent a good few hours there looking at all the cute arts and craft style stalls. In the market there was a fish feet cleaning service - we had seen it all over thailand and cambodia but were too chicken to try it but it was cheap here so decided to go for it - there is a big paddling pool in which you submerge your feet - its full of fish - some as long as 3inches and they nibble on the dead skin on your feet - sounds disgusting but it was so fnuny - we were in stitches and managed to get ourselves a bit of a crowd because of all the noises we were making it was just so incredibly tickly. we were not very good a putting our whole feet under, just kept our heels under! After the market we headed to Merdeka square - an old colonial square with famous clocktower - it was cute. The weather looked like it was going to change so we headed for a shopping centre (shopping is a great past time in KL - shopping centres on every street corner - no joke) and went to the cinema - nothing really on so we went to see BOLT - the sperdog - being in the cinema itself was amusing because the kids watching the film thought it was incredibly fnuny - one little boy two seats down was literally throwing himself off his chair! Packed our bags this evening as leaving KL the following day.
fri 12th - we got up t 9 and left our room - left the bags at the hostel and went in search of some strappy tops from a tposhop we had found earlier in the week, bought a wee picnic for the bus then headed to the bus station with our bags and jumped on the next bus to Melaka.
