Fri 5th - we checked out of hostel at 12 and walked down to the ferry port (in the roasting heat it wasnt such a good idea), we got the ferry accross to Butterworth where the bus station was - we ofund the bus station but not our terminal - we evetually realised we were at the wrong station and on finding the right one we were told bus would be leaving at 2.30 - so we sat and read our books for a wee while. the bus tickets we had bought were not only VIP but V.VIP so we werent too sure what to expect - but man were they good - nice big seat - just 3 wide on a normal coach - we had a reclining chair and foot rest - it was luxury. The bus took a little longer to reach the Cameron Highlands than we had though, we rocked up eventually around 8pm, found a hostel and went out for tea. It was absolutely freezing - we had leggings on underneath long trousers and about 3 or 4 layers on our top half and wore socks whilst we watched Hitch that evening on tv. In reality the temperature was around 15degrees but it really did feel freezing!
Sat 6th - we had booked a trip for today so got up at 8am -again it was cold so we wore trousers all day and long sleeved tops - unfortunately it was raining and misty so wasnt the best day for our trip. The first stop was heading up a mountain (6,666feet) in a landrover with our tour guide Nick, he was lovely and it was just the two of us on the tour. On the way up we were driving through tea plantations - the landscape was beautiful. We stopped to watch men collecting the tea leaves (which by the way looked like leaves you would find on a bush in Scotland!) We drove upto the top but didnt even get out of landrover as you couldnt see anything, on the way down we pulled over and went on a rather pointless walk in a mossy forest - but was raining now and cold. Next stop was the BOH tea plantation - the plantation we were visiting was 234,000hectares and was the smallest of the two, the second one was 800,000. the smaller plantation made enough tea leaves to produce 5.5million cups of tea a day! it was crazy - we got a tour around the factory and then sat and ate tea with shortbread in a cafe overhanging the plantation - it was awesome. The BOH tea plantation was run by a Scottish family and was set up 80years ago. Lasts top was a butterfly and insect farm - some of the bugs were horrible - we each held a turtle though and turned down the chance to hold the scorpion and snake. we then went trough to the butterfly farm - they ewre so beautiful - a man lifted one up and put on gills arm so we could take a picture which we did, but then it started crawling up her arm and freaked her out so she shook the butterfly off. On the way back to our town we stopped at a stawberry farm and Gill bought some strawbs to snack on. That evening we had tea then returned to guest house and watched a rubbish christmassy film on tv. it was so cold we couldnt face staying up much later. we were leaving cameron highl;ands tomorrow - it had been a short stay which was a shame but there really wasnt much to do in the town we were staying and the wether wasnt pleasant.
