A couple of days ago we were talking to our new Friends Subha & San, both from Calcutta and were holidaying here in Goa. I mention how I'm trying to book tickets for the next leg , the railway journey to Kerala. Subha tells me "You may have a problem with this, if you do let me know". Since all railway reservation are now done on line, you can no longer simply show up at the station and get a ticket as sometimes the trains are fully booked. All my efforts have been met with frustration and each day I'm finding it harder and harder to get anywhere with it. Later in the evening we meet up again and I ask Subha for help, he makes a couple of calls. As it's a holiday, you cant make reservations online. Subha tells me to go see a travel agent as this may be the only way of getting things sorted. This makes sense.
Earlier on I'd spoken to the two English ladies who'd earlier witnessed the chunder event. I'd apologised on behalf of Grant, they assumed he was drunk. To this I replied, "Well, yes if you can get drunk on water, I suppose he was". I wish I hadnt bothered saying anything to them. Grant is fine by the way in case you're wondering. He drank more water and slept for a few hours and we had a good laugh about the looks on the womens faces.
Our friends from Calcutta have left the hotel today, Subha will be driving 700 kilometres towards and past Mangalore. A quick hello guys if you're reading, travel safe and give our regards to Koshi, Nemo & Mother-in-Law. They had also been to Fort Aguarda a bit later than us and I mentioned that Grant had got heat stroke. They confirmed that it had been very hot up there and they also had felt the affects of the sun. So we werent wrong about it being oppressively hot there.
Today we had the major jitters and feel the need to get out of Goa. Most people would be happy to spend a month here, but because we've been travelling quickly, the lack of adrenalin is making us jumpy. We head to the travel agent and get told it's impossible to get on tomorrow's train, then tell us because they cant book it. Over to the next place and we get sorted out for tomorrow's night train. Elated, we're told to come back in an hour to pick up the tickets. it was an happy hour whilst it lasted. We went back and got told the train was full, it'll have to be Wednesday. We have to check out tomorrow and so need to get another place. Wish us luck. Even better, please leave a comment, we could do with some moral support right now.

Clive Good to hear that Grant has recovered from his temporary bout of madness!!! Don’t worry too much about the logistics , something always comes up! Just to keep your peckers up, and that you have something homely to look forward too....... I can tell you that I got a bumper harvest of sloes down at Penlan, many pounds of the little devils!!! ..........Will be getting them prepared this week, adding the necessary gin and sugar, so we should have an ample supply of the "Gelligaer crack cocaine" come your Christmas gathering! Which I am assuming is still on the cards?! Will wait with interest to see if you got sorted re: accommodation and travel. Clive, Gail and the boys. x
nerys Only had sunstroke once... eventually cured with wild Spanish strawberries, much water delivered to a darkened room, followed by a maxisleep. Your brain fries!!!! Fingers crossed for tomorrow. xxxxn
nerys My wife made the allegation "I think you’ve had an affair with that Welsh tart, the one from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch". I said, "How can you say such a thing?"
Gareth Gibbs We waited with baited breath for news as well as being somewhat preoccupied here with ego’s - inflated and otherwise. What of the typhoon? is there any news or is that many miles away? Glad that poor Grant’s sickness was because of heat and not food. We send our love as we fry here! Pa & Ma xx

Charlie Peat Lloydie, My office computer fried a couple of weeks ago making life somewhat vexing. I am back online, but have only just found the link to your travelblogs. I’ve just spent a happy hour catching up on your adventures smoking a rather fine cigar. Believe it or not, I have lunch with Michael Palin at the end of November. If I get the chance, I’ll pass on the blog details! See if he can drop you a line. Saw David Dodd the other evening; we’re looking forward to seeing you, old chum! Enjoy yourselves! Travel safely! have a great weekend!
