Island Life
Wow lying on a beach day in day out really takes it out of you. We've literally spent the last 16 days soaking up the blazing Thailand island sun and it's been glorious. We're pleased to announce that Liam now officially has a tan. It's taken a few months, he's worked hard and it's paid off - keeping it is now his main concern!
After Koh Tao we island hopped for 9 hours across to Krabi - a mainland holiday spot where we based ourselves for next 7 days. It's a nice place but its downsides are that you don't feel like you're on an island, like we did in Koh Tao. Plus it's very westernised with places like Subway and McDonalds. It's upsides however are the places such as Subway and McDonalds - we really needed that welcome taste of home, plus we're skint, starving travellers and those are probably the biggest meals we've had this whole trip!
We decided against staying on Phi Phi as we'd heard a few bad reviews and it was pricey, so instead planned another boat tour with Chloe and Antony. We prepared this time and avoided heavy drinks the night before, this was a speed boat so any vomiting would not have been ideal.
The trip was amazing and took us round four of Phi Phi's main attractions - Bamboo Island, Viking Cave, Monkey Island and Maya Bay aka The Beach! Of course there was more snorkelling along the way and yet again it was unreal, seeing Dori was a personal highlight.
We spent the next couple of days wandering into 5* hotel pools and 'acting liked we belonged' which was a real luxury and then took another small trip to Railay Beach. We'd heard from travelling veterans that this was a stunning place to visit, and they were right the scenery is beautiful, but as a beach tourism has definitely taken some of that beauty away.
Our last island was Koh Lanta - an extremely under developed island further south. One of the most peaceful and relaxing places we have ever been. We stayed in a cheap resort on Khong Klong beach and spent 3 days topping off our tans and enjoying the amazing sunsets - a great way to say goodbye to Thailand.
We are now in Malaysia, first stop Georgetown, Penang and we're loving it already.
