Gerard's Travels
Ahoy there me hearties! I woke up this morning to the sounds of cannons being fired and pirate voices over the PA around Albert Dock below - turns out there was a massive pirate festival going on all around the dock! To celebrate, I've also written this blog in attempted pirate speak, which I've saved as an entirely different entry, yay! (It also makes me look like I've done two blogs, even though they tell the same story!) For those totally confused (as I was) about where I ended my story last night, allow me to explain: I woke up a little earlier this morning, and saw Luke charging his phone as he needed battery to get in contact with Brennan to get back to his hotel. Seeing him there didn't worry me; after all I saw him last night in bed when I got in, so I knew he had stayed. But that got me thinking; if I left the nightclub ages before him and Daniel, how the **** was he already in bed when I got in the door? I was really confused, it didn't make sense. Once Luke had got in contact with Brennan, he said his goodbyes and headed back to his own hotel. Meanwhile, all the while I was laying there trying to piece together how on earth he made it back before me last night - I remembered my whole trip home, and he was with Daniel so I knew they wouldn't be as good a navigator home as I was. I had no idea. Relief came later in the morning from Daniel with an explanation. When they got back at about 4:30am, Daniel tried to go to the bathroom. But the door was locked. Turns out I'd passed out on the toilet when I got home at about 2:30am, and Daniel had to bash at the door to wake me. Oh ****, what a night. While I remember seeing Luke in Daniel's bed when I left the toilet (although thinking I'd just walked in the door), I can't even remember seeing Daniel when I must've left it! Wow. And Daniel doesn't even know how him and Luke got back to the hotel. They could've walked, but he has a sneaking suspicion that they paid a taxi driver like £25 (basically $50) to take them on a five minute trip, because they didn't wanna walk. With that cleared up, I can now continue on with the day's events! Needless to say, it was a slow start this morning for Daniel and I! Dad got up early, went for breakfast, came and checked on us, then headed off to look at The Beatles Museum just down the road. Liverpool is full of Beatles landmarks, as this is the city where they started. Dad was in his element a bit! When he came back, we were still in bed, but we were awake! We decided to call that forgotten woman on the other side of the world (Mum) to see how Maggie was. In the process, we also decided to ask how she was too, I guess that's important as well! In truth, we had a good chat with her and we're looking forward to seeing her in a few days time! After that conversation we finally started to get our day underway. Daniel decided he better give the friendly taxi bloke a call to arrange the purchase of his soccer ticket for Tuesday, while I arranged his extra couple of nights accommodation, before we all finally got out and about! The dock was packed with pirates and little kid pirates and looked so fun, with cannons going off all the time, heaps of tall ships and plenty of pirate talk. Aargh! As it was close to lunchtime already, not to mention we were hungover, we were hungry! We found a nice cafe and ordered some food; the most massively high hamburger I'd ever seen! As it was a hamburger, of course we had to match it with a beer, which didn't go down quite as well as the burger. In fact, Daniel couldn't even get his down! But the burger did reinvigorate us a bit, and we were ready to tackle the rest of the day! After lunch, we went to the Liverpool shop, and Daniel bought more stuff. After a bit of a walk around, we visited the Liverpool shop, again. The Liverpool shop was next on our agenda after we left it before. Once done there, we were back in the Liverpool store. Spare time? Liverpool store. I'm pretty sure I even frikking dreamed about visiting it in my sleep last night! Then I found the Lego shop in the same complex and we went in. After going in there, I am so excited to have children, and buy them (me) all the Lego in the world! I can't wait! As it was approaching late afternoon, we decided to find a pub so that Dad could watch his team, Manchester United, play their EPL match with a bit of atmosphere. For good measure, en route we went into the Liverpool shop again. By now I think Daniel will require a whole cargo plane to get his wares home, and most likely a need to remortgage his house to afford everything he's bought. We found a massive sports bar with an even bigger screen to watch the soccer, and got a beer each to torment ourselves and our livers, although it did go down much better than the last one we had. I think the day was starting to catch up with me a bit (truthfully I just wanted to go and see the pirates), so I polished my beer off pretty quickly and decided to head back to the hotel to rest. After a bit of a rest, I was just about to go out and have a bit of a look around the dock when Dad and Daniel arrived back at the hotel, content that Manchester United was leading at halftime. Daniel also wanted a bit of a rest so decided to stay in, but Dad was keen to join me for a bit of a walk around so came with me, he just keeps going! I guess that's what happens when you don't go out drinking till all hours or passing out on toilets! The pirate festival was just wrapping up, but dare I say there was still a treasure trove of pirates floating around the area. The most disappointing thing about today here though was the paddle boat swans, that Daniel and I wanted so badly to look all cute in, was closed! We knew it earlier, and that's part the reason he decided not to come with us; facing it really was a bit devastating. Dad and I continued along the river for a little while, before returning to Albert Dock so Dad could have a look in a Beatles merchandise store. They really like their merchandise stores here! I left him looking in there as I had this mad craving for a chocolate thickshake, and found a store earlier that sold them. I met him back in the room where he had the biggest plastic bag I'd ever seen - for a minute I thought he'd done a Daniel and purchased the whole shop! But all he'd purchased was four individual Beatles coasters, and must've been too lazy to carry them in his hand (he is getting old you know), even though he disputes that and reckons it's the only sized bag they had. We all had a bit more of a rest in the room, and I completed another blog, knowing full well the pressure I was under from my beloved readers. When we all had the energy, we headed downstairs to a restaurant for some dinner. I think for the first time this trip, both Daniel and I didn't have a beer at dinner. And I had a salad! I swear, I have to be getting healthier from this trip so far! After dinner it was back up to the room, a low key night on the cards, and getting ready to leave because tomorrow, we're London bound! Except Daniel, surely he's only bound to get lost!
