Georgie's world!
hey!! on here again i know...i cant get enough of updating and sharing my adventures!!! ; ) i was reading through some of my journals on here though and figured that they dont really give me any reminders of what new zealand is really about. i want to be able to read this over when i get back home and remember nz for what it is and what its really like...and not just from some of the crazy tourist things ive been up to!!! each and every place we have been has been so different with something amazing to offer from each destination...christchurch is the sleepy town with real kiwi people and real life nz going on. not many people like it and i think thats why! places like mahinapua, wanaka and franz josef are stunningly normal for some of the things that go on there!! mahinapua has a lake, a beach and a pub nicknamed the 'poo pub' - and thats it! the beach and lake are stunning and the mountain backdrop is indescribable. they give you an insight into new zealand and whats in between the lively resorts and areas that visitors and residents live between. vast land stretches between each place and provides endless scenery that literally is picture perfect. one of my favourite places in the south island so far has to be lake matheson - it is a 20 minute walk through the temperate rainforest until you stumble across the lake - on a picture perfect morning like when we stopped there, you get the best mirror image on the water from the mountains. absolutely stunning and quite possible one of the most tranquil places i have ever been. as is the franz josef glacier. franz josef is like another world. the glacier is its biggest feature and the region is purposely built around it. its odd because you forget the glacier is a natural sight and not a tourist attraction - its crazy to keep reminding yourself you are standing on something natural, even though people pay hundreds to fly and see it!! the helicopter there is the most tourist thing to do, but once there it is you against the elements! you can hear the ice falls from a mile away - wow! and if you're lucky enough to find a cave, you can hear the purest sound of dripping water thats known to man!! wowee! words, pictures and even money cannot describe or capture things like that. we are currently in queenstown - it is definately the party palace of nz!! lively, so much to do and action packed with adventiure tours! it is a ghost town most of the day cos everyone is out on their excursions and by night, it comes alive to party! everyone that works here are foreign workers or residents from outside that work in the tourism industry. i love it - it is definately a buzzing place to be! its almost like the snow capped mountians and awesome mountain ranges and fiordlands are there purposely to remind you of nz's natural beauty. with so much going on, the kiwi's have found a fantastic balance between showing off their magnificent land but, at the same time, protecting it from the outside elements. this country is very much like england used to be. 1940's england is the best way to describe christchurch! but the whole country has a lovely way of living - people still have respect for each other, they all speak and ask how you are. everything is accommodated for whether you are a tourist or a resident. its a country that makes you feel anything is possoble, and if you want it right now then it is available! i would describe this country as an adventure destination with added extras! - sheep, lushus lamb!, scenery that takes your breath away and such friendly people. it ticks boxes in all the right places but isnt in your face at all. i cant believe how much we have crammed into these past few weeks. just 2 weeks left here and still so much to see and do...looking forward to seeing the contrasts in the north island so im sure i will be updating this from there! the kiwi bus has definately allowed us to see a whole new side to nz and knows of all the places to stop and see...added extras we probably wouldnt have been aware of had we done this route ourselves...and obviously the people we have met because of the bus is amazing. so im not ready to leave new zealand yet and there are still 2 whole weeks to fill but i thought its was crucial to update on the country as a whole and not just on all the things we have been doing here...new zealand...sweet as! hope all is good there and that this shows a little of what im lucky enough to be living right now!!! love from new zealand...x x x
