Meeting at Reserv. Tour agency at 7am ready to embark on our first real peruvian adventure!
We met the rest of our group which was made up of a Swiss girl Susanne, and 4 peruvians who spoke litttle english so we were a little worried about what to expect.
We wanted to do the jungle trek because it included cycling, rafting and zip lining along the way. After the safety briefing we were all kitted up with helmets, knee and elbow pads ready to start cycling for 3hours. We were lucky our bikes looked brand new so i didnt have any issues with the breaks which was a good start.
Cycling down the mountain took me back to decending Sa Calobera all over again, the scenery was amazing and we had a great opportunity half way down for a panoramic shot. The second half of the cycling was more exciting, you had to cross little streams, but I made sure I went through first so I didnt get drenched! I thought I should have taken over as the lead guide because the official guide nearly crashed as he rode into the gutter on numerous occasions.
After we hopped on board the bus and drove into Santa Maria where we were due to spend the night at ´The Lodge´ a family run hostel.
4pm: Water Rafting
We weren't sure what to expect after our guide told us that we didnt need to wear bakinis as we wouldnt get wet. However, when we got there we were given fetching outfits consisting of a yellow splash jacket, helmet and life jacket. At this point we were glad we were wearing our bakinis because it was going to be more then a calm boat ride!
We successfully completed the first rapid and as they got progressively harder I managed to slip and fall in the middle of the boat. In our team we had 2 austrlian girls, Susanne, a swiss boy and an Argentinian along with our instructor Tyson. It then became a competition between the two boats and it turned into a water fight getting completely soaked.
I would extreamely recommend this type of trip because we had so much fun on day one, I am looking forward to seeing the go pro videos later on.
