Whilst on the catamaran transfer from Blue lagoon to South Sea I heard my name called on the tannoy. The lady at the travel desk was informing me that Bobbi and I would have to vacate South Sea Island tomorrow for the entire day as a cruise ship was coming in and they wanted the island exclusive to themselves. Firstly, I was not impressed as the reason we had chosen to select our islands rather than getting the Bula island hopping pass like most backpackers was we would rather spend as little time transferring between the islands and be able to relax instead. Secondly, I was annoyed that we were only just informed and had no other option whilst we were on the way to South Sea, if we had been informed at the start of our trip this would have given us some time to possibly change our route or stay on an alternative island instead.
Therefore in the morning we were put back on the catamaran and transferred to Beachcomber. We were informed that our boat vouchers would be on the boat to collect to ensure we got lunch included on the island. The travel company had not provided a voucher for Bobbi, the lady amended mine on the boat and ensured us that it would be fine. However, this was not the case. When we arrived at beachcomber I again heard my name called over the tannoy by Mama Lessi and had to report to reception. This was then sorted as she called the office but another thing we didn't need. We were also given a voucher for our snorkelling gear rental but on South Sea you do by need to pay anything or leave a deposit and we were not informed that on beachcomber they required a $25 deposit. Therefore, I could not get the snorkelling gear as we did not have enough money with us.
We did enjoy the day and the following day on South Sea. The island was very different to Blue Lagoon and Manta Ray but they all had their charms. There was a small group of us on the island this meant that it was more sociable and we all joined Tim in the dancing after dinner and the bonfire on the second evening.
I knew it was too good to be true, there was five of us in the dorm who had bed bugs and woke up in the morning covered in bites!
This was not the end.. we had chosen South Sea as it was the closest island to the main land and therefore the last pick up of the day at 17.30. The night before we were informed that we would have to leave the island on the 11.30 transfer back due to another cruise ship coming to the island in the afternoon. Instead of us enjoying the whole day on the island we had another transfer day (which meant a nothing day with lots of your day interrupted). To top it off when we arrived back at the port we were then informed that the transfer back to the smugglers/ bamboo hostel only happened at 18.00 so we would have to pay for a taxi back to the hostel! It wasn't much but it wasn't the point, we had been kicked off the island earlier then we wanted too and we had to pay extra for the privilege!
