A sad goodbye to Sergio, Matildo and the crew at Sacha Runa this morning. It hadn't stopped raining all night and this morning so we were all soaked standing out on the road waiting for the bus to Baños. Then the next four hours were spent in a damp bus, drenched!
It was worth it though, arriving into Baños, there are huge waterfalls everywhere and the town is very colourful and touristy. We shopped around for a bit and then spent the rest of the afternoon waiting at the bloody Baños police station for a report for our b*****ed cameras. It was our first taste of anti-tourist behaviour, where the cops took care of all the locals before us, even the ones who arrived after us. Fabio said at one point the cop was talking about milking cows to the local because he knew we couldn't speak Spanish. Aside from that, the town is great, I'm looking forward to spending about 3 days here and taking advantage of the adventure tourism....tomorrow I'll be jumping on a 850m horizontal flying fox over a canyon! Got my nappies ready!
We headed out for a night on the turps, visiting Jack Rock Cafe which was my kinda bar - good rock music and cheap beers. Leprechaun bar was next, it also had good music for salsa and a Bob Marley shot when we walked through the door. It was basically local fire water that they lit up and you had to suck it through a straw, more hairs on the chest please! We hung out there for a bit, had a $1 mojito at a final bar and headed home...pretty tame really! I'll definitely be going back to Jack Rock, they even had a nz flag flying, what more could a girl ask for?!
Hoping the weather clears up tomorrow so I can put Baños through its outdoor adventure paces!
