An around the world and a frog equals $2!!!!
So we are finally in siem reap, the part of our Cambodian trip that we hve all been looking forward to the most!! on our first night we went in search of "pub street" and discovered possibly our favourite place of the trip so far. there are all these amazing streets surroundig pub street with amazing clothing and jewelry shops (and we found espadrils for $3... Yaaaay!!!) it felt like we were back in London!! After a very long exploration of these streets we found ourselves a restaurant with cocktail happy hour!! Alex and I decided to try a barbequed Khmer frog... It was actually surprisingly good and did taste like chicken!! We then made friends with the security guard at one of the bars and a cowboy from Australia, the security guard loved the writings on the wall left by previous tourists and had a great time pointing out classics such as "Free sex with ollie thomas. It wont be good but its free, THIS WAY". Charming. This was followed by a brief exploration in the night Market which was amazing :)
Today was a lazy start as we went on a hunt to find hear crazy little dumpling parcel things that street vendors sell. Sadly we failed settling for a standard rice/beef/noodle/tooomuchchilliiee combination... Things took a turn when we got into a fight with a tuktuk driver associated with the hotel who then came and found our room to continue the argument...pretty awkward and a bit scary...and all just cos we found a cheaper tuktuk driven by the lovely and extremely casual Mr Lin. We then went to the floating villages where we saw shops, churches, a restaurant, school and crocodile farm...all floating about in the middle of a massive lake. Y'no as ya do.
This morning the Angkor temples beckoned at 5 am in the morning in order to "catch the sunrise" which for some reason we missed and couldn't quite fathom how due to it being so early!! The morning however started with a run in between mr Lin and the crazy tuk tuk man, they had a tuk off. In other words we ran away with the milk man. We finally arrived at the temples, which it's fair to say lived up to all our very high expectations. It's amazing to think that they were built over 800 years ago and are still here. Georgie had a nerdy moment considering how it reminded her if entropy...professor brian cox reference right there...keep up. Cue Tomb Raider and the funky trees which are actually seriously cool and made for some very good photos including a MASSIVE Chinese tourist group... Yes we took a photo of the massive Chinese tourist group, what of it?
After a much needed nap, cause we are hard core tourists doing touristy things, we went on a much needed shopping spree and did some epic bargining including getting tanita a fake rolex down from $25 to $5...quality (geddit?) sometimes we just amaze even ourselves.
This evening we're off for fish pedicures ...for $1 (leaving georgie with a whole $5 to her name) and then we'll be getting some delicious bbq food Cambodian style... Cooked right on the table in front of you. Nom. Over and out. Xoxo
