Hellooo
We arrived in phnom penh yesterday after a "delightful" 6 hour bus journey including a ferry across the mekong river where they sold delicious goods such as cooked beetles and cockroaches... We also met lots of fabulously rah pheasant shooting english kids on the bus, who then stole our heat magazine... So we stole their first choice hotel! I have to admit we all thought it was realllyyy grim when we arrived but now we know our way round a bit and are staying in a nice place with a decent bathroom and enough beds. Win. Today we got jerry our friendly local tuktuk driver to take us to the national museum where we saw lots of Angkor relics and stuff.. It was all very cultural indeed. We also saw the royal palace which is beautiiiful but sadly not open today (frankly its a total rip off at 7 dollars entry AND you have to pay tale a camera in, v.cheeky). We then went to the killing fields which are about 15km outside of the city (cue extremely dangerous tuktuk ride). We had a guide take us around the killing fields which were so incredibly sad as we saw the mass graves of some 20,000 men women and children killed on the 1970s by the Khmer rouge soldiers. A sobering experience reinforced by our tuktuk driver jerry who then told us he'd lost his mum in the genocidal killings of the khmer rouge. Ummm what else? Lots of rice eating and looking foward to Siam reap, leave at 7am tomorrow. Gah...earrrly. Til then...
Lots of love hitchy, georgie and tanita xoxo
Ps. massive shout out to hannah ld as promised. Lol.
