the journey from Hoi An was standard, some annoying girls on the bus, and a stop at some horrid toilets that you could smell when you got off the bus, and they were just squatter toilets, not the nicest.
Arrived around 6am but couldnt get into our room till 8ish so some interneting and breakfast before we had settled into our room, and napped for a while then went for a wander around the town. We had decided to do a scuba diving course and researched and got prices and settled on a place called Angel Dive, as they were english/french, and not a little vietnamise peron trying to sell you a dive. next a walk along the beach, which it was full of locals, guessing cuz it was a sunday.
The next 3 days we would get picked up at a lovely 730am and taken out on the boat. We did 2 dives a day and they were soooo much fun!!
the first day you put on your wetsuuit, which takes a while! then all of your gear, which is bloody heavy, then with your flippers on, walking is pretty dam hard, you stand at the very edge of tthe boat, toes on the edge and dive in.
getting used to the breathing underwater park took a few mins and you instinctively just want to breathe really fast to make sure you're getting air but thats not good. within 5 mins of swimming i got this sharp stinging pain on my face. i panicked and came to the surface, and was told it was probably a jelly fish sting, ouuuch.
you have to learn skills aswell, which means going down to the bottom and standing/kneeling on the sand, ALOT harder than it sounds, and you do things like getting water out of your mask, putting your regulator back in, taking your equip off and back on again etc... But i couldnt really empty my mask of water i got too scared doing it, and when i realised one of the skills was to take your mask off underwater then put it back on i got very nervous. my turn came and i kept shaking my arms and head not wanting to do it, but eventuallly i did - GO ME!!
There was only me and james and two instructors so we always had someoe to hand incase anything might go wrong. but after some skills we were free to swim around. There wasnt too many fish to see but there was loads of really nice coral to see. After he boat we would go and have our free lunch at the resturant then the rest of the day was ours, which usually consisted of us on the beach revising. We had a book each to learn in like 2 days, and it wasnt hard just boring, there was also a reaaaaaaallly boring video wwe had to watch which lasted over 2 hours, and i was so tiered i kept dozing off. but on the 3rd day we had to take an exam, which was harder than i thought but any questions we go wrong (only 2 out of 50 :D) he just went through them anyway so that was fine.
But now i am a qualified diver with card and certificate and that so dives from now on are cheaper. The picture n mine is AWFUL, so i wont be flashing my card around.
As we had to be up early we didnt really go out drinkin much, hungover on a boat is not on my list of todos. but we had heard that this was party town. but well, it was ok, not exactly party town, more so in Hoi An where we had come from. but we went out a few nights drinkin vodka redbulls for like 50p so cant complain. but the club you could go to was massively expensive, and there only seem to be about 3/4 places maz where people would drink.
Days were spent by the beach and the place also had a pool so i didnt have to go in the sand. night time we went out for dinner, mainly at a place called something fishy, where they did a MASSIVE tuna steak on the bbq with chips and a big salad, all for less than 2quid each, lovely.
However, everyother day in Nha Trang the power goes off from 6am - either 6-9pm which is WELL annoying, as you would wake up hot from the AC going off, then having a shower at 7pm at night in pitch black had to be done with a torch, annyoingly.
There isn't much o see or do here, just beach it up and go out, but we went out to these mudbaths one day, which was slightly sureal. We thought as it was advertised in all the tour places there would be aload of westerners....nope, we saw about 5 others, max. you go in then get changed then you have a shower and head to th mudbaths. which there is like 30+ of them, all on different levels, and you get in one, surroundd by about 5 vietnamise, and it fills up with the mud stuff. then you soak for about 15 mins. one kid was crying so to cheer her up the mum pointed at me and laughed, nice. then you have these hot baths and jet powered springs or something then waterfall, and hot and cold pools etc. All in all nice and relaxing, and my skin felt a little better i guess.
the last day our bus to Saigon wasn't until 8 at night. but others that were waiting for the same destination came and went, 830 came and went, and the reception lady looked doubtful at our ticket, so we got very worried indeed. but EVENTUALLY someone came and picked us up in a taxi and took us to the bus...phew...next stop Saigon.
