It's been a lazy one today, sunbathing by Lake Wanaka until it was time to get back on the bus to Queenstown this afternoon.
Our new driver was an absolute twat: sexist, dead mic happy and he mistakenly thought he was a comedian. As we were driving into Queenstown he was making dodgy comments about how the mandatory ID checks they do in bars means that all the girls are "legal" and then went on to tell us that the age of consent is 16. The man was about 40 so is clearly some kind of Rohypnol fiend... Anyway, he didn't spoil the journey into Queenstown, through the Kawarau Gorge, following the Kawarau River, past more beautiful mountains.
We'd heard that Queenstown was a bit naff but it's just a bustling resort town full of bars, cafes and shops. I suppose it's relatively built up compared to the rest of the South Island, but with natural scenery like Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables it can't help but look gorgeous. It's also the adventure sports capital of New Zealand but funds are now extremely low so the most hardcore we'll be getting is probably a few trips on the luge.
Anyway, we only arrived at around 5 so we've not had chance to check it out properly yet - I'll report back in full tomorrow.
Lots of love x x x
