Feeling hot hot hot!!!! Yes, it's still very hot here...we have had a bit more rain in the evenings, but the days are still really hot and humid, you sweat buckets every time you work...mmmm, nice!!!
I'm really enjoying being in such close contact with the elephants, they are such amazing animals, and they all have their distinct characters which you get to know from spending time with them. After a few days it just becomes normal to be giving them water from the hose, and having them lean their trunks against you, so i have to keep reminding myself what a privilege it is to be so close to them, and that I should treasure these moments as i may never get another opportunity to do this. I love the walks in the forest too, as it is great to see them in their natural habitat.
I feel as though the elephants are getting to know me a lot better now, and have a connection. They are responding to me when I call them up from the bottom of the enclosure to have a drink. I have to call them in Thai...by shouting 'Ma!' which means come. Although, sometimes they do just stand there, and look at me as if to say 'what the f*ck is she going on about??' ...but I get that look from a lot of people!!! ha ha! It is amazing when they do come to you though, having three huge animals slowly and gracefully walking up the hill towards me, making calm sort of growly rumbling noises...it's just wonderful to see. Then they come so close, all pushing in to get their water...it's hard to explain what it's like, but I'll never forget it. It's lovely too when I pat them on their trunk and speak to them and they flap their ears and wave their tails (which is a sign they are happy and content).
Baby is getting more cheeky and palyful by the day, and is getting a bit boistrous too...she gave me an upper cut with her trunk yesterday...I thought I was going to be knocked out!!! She hit my jaw and my whole head vibrated!!!
The Thai people here are lovely, they are so friendly and helpful. We went to a big supermarket last night, and lots of people kept stopping me just to say hello, and some of them just stopped and helped me when I was trying to work out what the signs meant. They don't really see any tourists in this area, and they seem to love the british over here.
I will try to upload some photos when I get a chance, but i need to find someone who knows what they are doing, because I don't want to lose them!!!
I'll be in touch soon, Gemma xxx
