Ok, well I think it’s time to say something about the town I have been living in for just over 2 months now!

The town is a pretty decent size, not massive but not small either. There are 2 main streets which are connected by another street which also has a fair few shops and things. The main street near me, which is pretty much directly outside my apartment building, has lots of shops and restaurants, including Pizza Hut and Baskin Robbins! There is also a great bakery on the corner near my apartment which I visit a couple of times a week for bread.

The connecting street is where the bank is which is where I have my bank account and also where I have to go each month to pay my bills using the machines there (well, I get the information man to help me as I have no idea what to do!). Also thankfully, the cash machines speak English so I can get money out quite easily!

Near to the bank is the town park, which on first glace looks just like a largish paved area with a section full of exercise equipment, which seems to be a common theme with all park areas!
At either side of the paved area of the park are paths which lead up into a small wooded area. I have not yet fully explored these pathways but there seem to be several short paths though the wood to various other parts of town. When I walked though I ended up near the other end of town near the other main street.

The other main street is somewhere I have not explored too much yet, but as with the street near me there are several shops and restaurants, and it feels closer to the mountains, which I think is because there are less apartment blocks at the other end of town.

In Deokjeong, and I think most other places, there are a large number of street stalls, most of the one that are there all the time sell different foods, from fruit and vegetables to one I saw the other day that looked like it had whole crabs (and not small ones either!!).

The street I visit the most in town is the street that the school is on which seems to be quite a busy street, especially on Friday’s when there is street market on and the street is full of stalls selling all sorts - clothes, plants, food etc.

The supermarket where I go for my shopping is also on this same street which is really handy as I can just pop in on my way back from school in the evenings is I need anything. Next to the supermarket is the supply store which is owned by a really helpful Korean couple who try really hard to speak English. I have been in a couple of times to buy things so far and they have given me a small discount, I think because they know that I am teaching at the school.

All in all I really like it here, it has everything I need and although it’s a bit out of Seoul, it’s really easy to get to Seoul on the subway.
