We had an early start the next morning as we had to strap our back packs to the back of each bike and make sure we were comfortable as we were covering a lot of miles getting to the Central Highlands.
The best way to keep this trip from boring you all to death is to provide a summary of what we did over the 6 full days with a conclusion at the end of how we found it. Under this blog I will attempt to summarise the first 3 days as follows:
Day One:
AM - Visit to Meditation Centre outside Dalat - Beautiful location a nice way to start journey.
AM - Weaved our way up through stunning scenery in the Highlands - stopped a couple of times allowing us to walk and take photos.
Lunchtime - Ate looking over the valley - meal or should I say banquet ordered by easyriders, excellent fresh food. (a familiar story for the next 6 days)
PM - Visited Chicken Village (minority people of Vietnam) - Love story connected to monument of c*** (too long for this blog)
PM - Visited traditional market - saw biggest fish ever - Gemma had photo with traders, Matthew had sugarcane drink. Saw how they made rice noodles!
Evening stayed at Lac Lake - Nice setting good food early night.
Day Two:
AM - Took in some more scenery with a couple of stops - first to see a pineapple tree. Then to cross a rickety monkey bridge and oh Gemma got hold of some natural lipstick - plant used for food colouring!
PM - Crossed the river dividing the Central Highlands, stopped off met some locals. Visited minority people graves where they continue to feed their dead for 3 months through big drainpipes, a strange one I know and then after another 3 months they have a family ceremony and never return to the grave.
Evening - Stayed at Virgin falls - room not as good - big spider in room Gems not keen at all!
Day Three:
Am - When to minority village, had a look around a house, very basic. Apparently when a couple get married the husband moves into the family home with all wives relatives and the house gets an extension. Also once wife is pregnant she has to spend the whole 9 months isolated from anybody else except her close family.
Lunchtime - Arrived in Buon Me Thuot - where some of the worst fighting took place between the North and South Vietnamese armies. We were there for some absolutely fab fresh spring rolls DIY style. Gems and I wonder on how they now all these great places to eat.
PM - Made our way to a National park. Here Gems found a new outfit in the shape of a giant banana leave. Saw a pretty impressive waterfall and an even more impressive blue lagoon where we had a refreshing swim, no not nude we had our swiming gear with us.
PM - Then visited Ve Vao Cong waterfalls (see video) quite stunning. Met some Vietnamese from Saigon, had some BBQ fish with them and the obilgatory photos. Met back up with Young and Jean ready with 2 fresh passionfruit drinks devine!
Evening stayed in Dong Xoai City - had a BBQ at our table superb food again!
We are now halfway through our trip and although quite tiring at times the amount of things we experienced in these 3 days outweighed some of the weeks we had spent in other countries .
Please read Part two - Mekong Delta for following 3 days and trip conclusion.
