After Luang Prabang we went on an extremely twisty, winding 6 hour hair-raising bus journey to Vang Vieng. The bus was just a bit too close to the edge of the extremely beautiful drop below, but it was an enjoyable and scenic ride all the same!
Here we did the only thing really worth doing in the town - 'tubing.' This involves sitting in a big black rubber ring and floating down the river whilst stopping a couple of makeshift bars for a Beer Lao and jumping into the river via a zip line/swing typre thing. This was great fun, except for the mini rapid at the beginning where I got caught in some reed/branches and attacked by a swarm of flies, all whilst trying to protect my modesty (which had er... popped out my bikini top! Ha!). We got to just lay back and enjoy the gorgeous Lao countryside and mountains. Photos and videos will be on just as soon as we find a better computer!
After this we were all feeling pretty tired, even though we hadn't really done anything, so we kicked back in one of many weird bar/restaurants they have in Vang Vieng that consist of tables all facing the same way with cushion seats and everyone watching re-runs of 'Friends'. If you stand in the middle of the street you can hear 3 different episodes at once!
Today we went to the bus stop to hop on a bust to the capital, Vientiene but unfortunately it was full, so instead we teamed up with two Dutch brothers and paid for a tuk tuk to take us there. This took about two and a half hours and was bit mad a first making us feel pretty sick, but turned out ok when we got on the straight roads! So now we are in Vientiene and probabaly gonna fo some general sightseeing tomorrow before hopefully getting a flight to Hanoi in the next couple of days. Will write again soon, so long, farewell, Auf Weidersehn...pet. x
