TUESDAY 5TH JUNE - THURSDAY 7TH JUNE 2007
Got bus to Nelson - took most of the day. Walked around the town which is your average centre except surrounded by green hills - bizaare! On the wednesday we went on a day trip to the Abel Tasman National Park. Got the coach to Marahau where the water taxi took us to Torrent Bay to start our trek. We walked through the national park all the way back to Marahau (4hour walk). The scenery was spectacular - forestry to the right then ocean to the left with views to rival the coastlines we saw in Thailand. Showed us just how diverse NZ is. It was perfect & the weather was pretty hot too (for a winters day) so couldn't complain. At the end of the walk we went into this funky wood-art gallery which was unique. Had loads of carvings that were maori influenced. On the Thursday we walked to the very centre point of NZ at the top of a huge hill. The views of Nelson were gorgous as expected - cant quite imagine the views from the centre point of UK being quite so nice! In the evening we went to the oldest pub in NZ & true to its accolade it was almost dead - just us, 2old guys & the bar maid!
