Gary's World Adventure
Pai is about 3 hours north of Chaing Mai towards china. I had no intention of coming here however on the recommendation of Glen (from trek) and a few whisky whilst out with Nicola I agreed.
Well we managed to barter our own charter minibus to Pai as the normal bus's were full for the next couple of hours....we had a right bunch on our minibus..someone who we thought was a columbian drug dealer and his side kick..who was drinking at 10.30am??? and ended up with their legs in the air most of journey...they were seriously getting on everyone's nerves...oh well all part of the fun I kept saying to myself...who might I had was seriously hung over.
Pai was nice very quiet compared to everywhere in Thailand I had been, the town was still recovering from the severe floods the weeks earlier. However this didnt stop us having some fun...The Pai posse (so Im calling us all guys) consisted of Myself/Nicola/Cathy & Dave/Clive...we all were being brave and rented motor bikes for 2 days and went off exploring hot springs and waterfalls..Nicola/Clive and I thought we were getting confident by day 2 and opted for the 45k ride to the caves at dusk and see the bats..well picture this its 5pm..nearing dusk it starts raining and we're climibing hills that are having me think its everest we're climbing...we stop and discuss turning back as the road was getting very bad..but no we had to soldier on thinking we were all biking professionals....well an half hour later Clive has a small accident on his bike...and then the decidion was made no cave or bat was worth risking our life for...well on the way back its hail stoned/thundered/lightened and every other element you could imagine....not a nice experience and the worst of this trip..we definately looked like drowned rats by the time we got back..I didnt walk off the motor bike my trainers squelched.
We spent one day by a posh pool of a resort topping up our tans...which was needed.
Pia is very nice, its a small town near the golden triangle which joing china/thailand/burma...I liked it here as it was very layed back...I enjoyed one evening drinking with 3 thai policemen and having photos taken....yes I definately liked it here.
