Another early start, another greyhound bus to catch, which means I had to pack my bloody rucksack again. I got a lift in the limo to the bus station. I was a bit early, but it allowed me to have a nice cooked breakfast before my 2 hour bus to Byron Bay. The journey was the same as all the others, very empty allowing me to have 2 seats to myself. I was leaving Queensland, and arriving into New South Wales. My second state of Australia. It's taken me about 4 weeks to do Queensland. But I have enjoyed every second, and met some great people on the way.
HELLO NEW SOUTH WALES!!!
When I arrived at the bus station in Byron Bay, I walked 5 minutes to my hostel. It's my first time staying in a Nomads. I was to early to check-in as the rooms hadn't been cleaned. So I left my bag, and headed down to the beach. The beach was amazing, a long stretch of sand that seemed to go on for miles. The water seemed calm and I decided to walk along the coast line to a look out point. In the distance I could see the well known Byron Bay light house. (Byron Bay was the first place Capt. Cook touched land in Australia back in 1770!) I was going to walk to the top, but it was all up hill, and I got a good view from the beach. I'm lazy. I got to the viewing platform and just watched and chilled out. It was so quiet, and you could see people in the water on a surf lesson. I have my lesson tomorrow. Just hoping that I am able to stand up on the board at least once. You'll have to wait and see I guess.
I walked back along the water, it was pretty cold, but after a while I got used to it. Because it was a Sunday, everyone seemed to be out the beach, enjoying the winter sunshine. It could have been a warm summers day back I the UK. It was late afternoon and I was able to head back to the hostel to check in. On my route I visited the nice public toilets they were so grim.. Your going to wonder why I am telling you this, but you will find out in a second. I arrived back at Nomads, was allocated my room and unpacked a few things, I didn't want to waste the sunshine so I was about to leave - but I couldn't find my jumper. I looked everywhere... Couldn't find it. I was really piss off as it was my new one. I walked to the beach, and wondered if it had just slipped off my waist as that's where I had it tied. No lucky... Then I remember where I left it... "The Bog!" I had left my jumper in the minging toilet over the tissue dispenser. Gross I know but you should have seen the toilets. When I got to the toilet, someone was have a Sh1t in the toilet. I must have looked really strange hanging around the toilets... I pretended to wash my hands, as the guy came out... My jumper was still sitting there!! I grabbed it and headed back to the hostel. The jumper went straight in the wash. Well I thought it was funny at the time. I then headed out for some dinner, chicken kebab and sat on the beach watching the sunset.
The people in my dorm seemed nice, and chatted with them a bit before watching the outside movie. Everyone has beers and we watched a film outside on a projector. Thank god for the outdoor heaters, as it would have been cold otherwise. Nights, mornings and evenings are starting to get really cold. I headed to bed, really looking forward to my surf lesson tomorrow!! Crossed my fingers that I don't brake any bones.
