Our final night on our fantastic trip and we decided to head to Chinatown and enjoy the celebrations for Chinese New Year. We dressed up in our last lot of clean clothes and headed in on the Metro with most of the population of singapore. There were thousands of people being herded in groups up the escalators into Pagoda Street as there were literally too many people to fit all at once!
The crowds were tight but all friendly and happy and we moved slowly along looking and listening to all the stall holders calling out their wares and stopping to look at a few goodies.
We made our way to Food St and saw that the local stall holders had long line ups for their food, while the more expensive restaurants were busy, but not packed. We decided to eat with locals as we knew the food would be good and I lined up while Dan and the kids got drinks and tried to grab a table as soon as someone got up; there were table and plastic chairs in the middle of the laneway and empty ones were quickly pounced upon. They were finally successful and we all enjoyed a bowl of Chinese fare, even Jose who ate plain rice!!
We headed back towards the station and stopped and bought some memorabilia...cheap and guady, but very tempting!
We had a fabulous night to end our trip and all flopped into bed to wait for the wake up call at 4am!!
