Log 19th July:
Nearly at the end of week 4. Hard to believe as it feels like half that.
Just had 6 days at Menton which is nearby to Monaco and only a short train trip to Monaco, Cannes, Nice and other places. All crowded and a bit over-rated. Croatia was similar but with smaller towns and less people and half the price. And the Croatian women are gorgeous. But the food is way better here. Bread and cheese for lunch each day.
We are in a room that is 20m from the train track and more expensive than we would have liked, plus the hotel is full of old people, but we don't spend much time here so that's okay. It's only a short walk to the beach and to the old town so we're happy.
Had a day walking in the mountains a few days back which was brilliant. Walked between 2 quaint towns called Gorbio and St Agnes. The views were unbelievable and the track was a real goats track, but half of it - 4 km was up a steep incline so our legs have been getting a workout. We walk everywhere.
Cannes was disappointing. Just a bigger version of all the other coastal towns but with huge mega boats everywhere. If your launch is under 100 ft you are a pauper there.
Caught up with Claire Carroll and her friend Rebecca a few nights ago which was a blast. Had a fantastic meal on the beach at a great beach restaurant in Roquerbrune which is the next bay, and it was great to speak to a few Aussies. There's too many French people in France.
Off to Monaco for the day with Claire and Rebecca today, then the big trip tomorrow to Barcelona to pick up the Combie van and start the surfing leg of the trip in Spain and Portugal.

Tim Sophies friend (Ella- exchange student, was originally from around Monaco I think. No I was wrong, Margs came in and told me she was from the French Riveria near Cannes) We were due to have dinner with Dan tonight but he did not end up coming over. Our lives have been very exciting. I am close on seeing the end to winter grass in our lawn. It has been quite interesting to note how some sections of the lawn are more infested than others. Other rivoting news includes Aunty Monnies funeral tomorrow and focussing on some clover infestation in the SW corner of the rear lawn. Johnno rang the other day with no news of weed infiltration but he has been busy. Margs just marked another entry in her, 'catch Tim drinking during the week diary'. Just carved 3 mins of my 1k swim time. Reary and the Jefferies are coming over tomorrow so have some more news and we will blog you. Got to go have washed everywhere in great expectation Yo Tim
