After a long sleep it was time to pack for the night train and sapa before heading out. We also had breakfast at the hotel where we were able to order hot food from the menu for free. Ryan had an omelette and I had scrambled eggs with mushrooms.
We wanted to see the Ho Chi Minh museum but because of it being a Sunday it was closed. Plan b was to head to the market and buy Ryan a bag. We haggled and got it from 280 to 150 so not too bad. The market itself looked very local and not many tourists. Also I didn't have shop assistants try and pull me.
After the market we went to the lake and for a walk around it. We stopped for a seat and a local had a fishing line. He chucked it in and then in 10 seconds he had caught a fish. Crazy. We also had a student come and talk to us to try and learn English. After this we walked to the French section and to the national museum. It was hair after 12noon and the museum didn't open until 1.30. So we had lunch at a restaurant. We both had fried rice, Ryan with chicken, but it wasn't so nice.
As soon as the museum was open we went in. We learnt about all the old artefacts and relics from Vietnam and more about the French occupation and the civil war.
After 3 hours at museum we walked back to the lake and went to the lake view cafe. It was a tourist cafe and drinks were expensive but worth it all for the view. We also had fun watching the traffic!
After a few drinks headed back to the hotel to grab our bags and head to the train station. We got there early and couldn't get our tickets for sapa from the voucher. We were able to buy our other tickets after a few trips to the atm.
To kill some time we got some dinner at a local place where I had egg and bread and Ryan got local food.
When we returned to the station we got our tickets and crossed the tracks to the train. We were in a 4berth room with two Canadians. The train was bumpy but was okay to sleep on. 5.30am wake up call so not much sleep. Trekking tomorrow in sapa :)
