Day 2 in Bangkok! Buffet breakfast was up first. Not too sure what to expect but it was amazing! Lots of Asian dishes like noodles and stir fry veggies, eggs, bread and cereal. How could I say no to noodles for breakfast? I loaded up my plate and grabbed a coffee! Not too bad for free breakfast, no complaints.
Next up was the Thai cooking class. Again, not too sure what to expect. I was picked up from the hotel and driven to the school. Driving in Bangkok is completely crazy. Change lanes when you feel like it and turn where you want. I'm happy I'm not driving! As we got closer we got off the expressway and drove through the small, suburban streets. These were like a maze! So many turns and such small roads. I'm not sure how you fit one car down them let alone two cars! The suburb was interesting, small shops and street stalls scattered about!
Finally we arrived at the cooking school. It was like a big open house with an amazing garden. We were taken upstairs for tea and to sign in before walking around the garden. The garden was where they grew lots of fresh ingredients such as limes, dragon fruit, lemongrass and basil. We were taught about some of the ingredients such as their smell, texture and which part to use when cooking certain dishes. After that it was time to start cooking.
The first course we cooked was dessert as it needed time to set. We used duck egg and made egg custard, kind of like creme brûlée. We had to mix the egg with other things using our hands. Then drained, steamed and off to the fridge.
Soon more people arrived and joined the class. We then made money bags, i made chicken ones and others used pork. Wrapping the money bags was lots of fun! I realised I was pretty bad at cooking and must have been funny to watch. The money bags were then deep fried and we got to eat them! Yum!
Next course was prawn soup. We got to add chilli which I liked but the soup was not very good. Also I don't like prawns so definitely not for me.
The last course was green chicken curry. We made our own green curry paste before cooking the curry. The curry wasn't too spicy and almost sweet. I think more chilli was needed so I better try cook it again at home! All in all it was a great class. We got to eat all the food we cooked before heading home.
So now I am back at the hotel, drinking a beer by the pool. Meeting the tour group happens soon so I hope everyone is nice and up for some fun! Fuzz out xx
