Bus and border crossing day. Early start at 6.30 and jumped on the mini bus heading towards the border. After a couple of hours on the bus we stopped to grab some food and fill in our paperwork. Apparently it's easier to get your vids from the embassy rather than the actual border. I thought that the border would be.a gate where we got stamps and then show our visa and we get through. Not to be the case. We jumped off the bus and our luggage got carted through the border? Who knows. We first had to exit Thailand which didn't take too long. Then we had to enter Cambodia which involved a walk through the border approx 600m. We had our heads scanned to check the temperature and finally got to the official entry. The entry went smooth for most apart from one who didn't have their visa!
Once through the border we got on a public shuttle to a bus station and then our private bus picked us up. Cambodia drive on the opposite side of the road and drive crazy. The road was mostly concrete but then it turned to dusty, red dirt in some places. Coming into Siem reap was different, like a small market town. It was beautiful tho.
A quick swim and cocktail in the hotel and then out for dinner. We took a tuk tuk (lots of fun) out to a small village. Two of the village girls took us on a tour and explained all the local plants and trees and what each were used for. We then were able to have a local meal, sitting on cushions on the ground. They brought us local Cambodian food like amok, noodles and curry. It was amazing. After dinner the local kids came to talk to us to learn English and to play. They loved taking selfies on the phone and playing angry birds! So amazing. Then a tuk tuk ride back to the city.
The market was next! So many elephant pants and cheap knock offs. I decided to try my haggling skills and since I needed a bag, it was a perfect chance. I chose a bag and the lady told me 5 but I bargained to 4.... Not so good. Then a few of us wanted pants so we bargained for 6 for 16 when they wanted 5 each! Lots of fun!
Then time to drink... Walking past the fried tarantulas and snakes! Eww! The group headed to Angkor wat bar and we all got buckets to get free shirts! The night got very messy with dancing on the table! Lots of fun! We got back around 12 because we had to be up at 5 for the sunrise at Angkor wat!
