Auckland...... So amazing.
So woke up today with absolutely no plans of what to do. After a quick Internet search, rangitoto island looked quite nice. I had been told it had a volcano and lots of nice walks. So coffee on the way and ferry tickets were purchased.
The weather today was 23 and very sunny. I had left the sunscreen at the backpackers, so Bec and I thought we were going to burn, and boy, were we right. We did manage to borrow some sun screen from a Canadian girl on the ferry, but we both missed a few spots and ended up very red.
Well rangitoto island was 30minutes by ferry. The walk to the summit then took around 45minutes (2.4km). The view from on too of the summit was incredible. Blue sea everywhere, sun shining and looking back over Auckland city. Then the walk around the crater was beautiful. After the summit, we headed to the caves. They were formed by the lava from the volcano, pretty cool hey! So we decided to go into one of he three caves and freaked out a little. We found it was a dead end and went back. The next cave was about 5m so cave number three it was. We hit our heads and got scratched a few times but made it through and took some cool photos.
As we had planned this so well, we had no breakfast and no lunch so as soon as we got back to Auckland at 4pm we found the closest maccas and ate. We then stopped to taste some free beer before heading home for a shower.
Then we went for a walk to the park and to see sky tower. The Starbucks building also got evacuated which was cool to watch. Then came dinner, we walked around the city for a good 40mins until we found a pub that we were happy enough with. I got some fish and chips, which weren't the best and tried some black dog pale ale which was okay.
Tonight, we are staying in as we fly at 7am, so 5am wake up :( queens town tomorrow and hopefully some bike riding :)
Peace out!!
