One of the big surprises for my early day in Dalvik was the opportunity to take the ferry north to Grimsey Island. It was a three hour ferry ride, where my inner guts were not pleased. Suffice it to say I was a new shade of green surrounded by little white bags. Still have some empty ones, they're quite handy. There are two big tings about Grimsey Island. After I left the southwest coast the weather turned quite grumpy. Rain, wind, cold and none too hospitable. So, I decided to blast my way on to Dalvik, my prime destination. I was originally going to camp halfway there, and then pull into Dalvik on Saturday. But my spidery sense whispered to me that you won't find a camping spot if you wait that long. Spidery sense was right. I got about the last spot in the main campsite.

I wandered to a couple of other houses, but the lines were long and the soup not as tasty as the first.

What a treat! When I got off the ferry I learned that the Great Fish Day started Friday evening with free fish soup served in 20 or so homes around the city. If you see two torches burning outside a house, just walk in. This family was very well to do and had a beautiful home.
