The Paths Less Travelled
One of the big surprises for my early day in Dalvik was the opportunity to take the ferry north to Grimsey Island. It was a three hour ferry ride, where my inner guts were not pleased. Suffice it to say I was a new shade of green surrounded by little white bags. Still have some empty ones, they're quite handy.
There are two big tings about Grimsey Island. First, it's populated by a bazillion sea birds (maybe 400k, I lost count at 23). Second, part of the island is still within the arctic circle. Egad!
This picture shows just one of the sea cliffs where tens of thousands of birds hang out and fight for their little part of birdy heaven. Incredibly loud. A cacophony of screeching.
