The ferry ride back was amazingly beautiful (and smooth) so I was able to watch the coast of Iceland as we approached.

While I was waiting for the ferry back I found a tiny cafe with very expensive beer. What the heck, a Viking pale ale tasted great!

And then there were those cute and lovable puffins. They're like cute little penguins that can sort of fly. They flap their wings a lot. Hard to see how they actually manage to fly. There were thousands of puffins on every cliff side around much of the island.

The trek out and back was more or less terrifying if you were paralyzed by Hitchcock's film "The Birds". At any one time there were literally a thousand birds dive bombing your head. Either in search of brains or just plain aggressively mean.

So those clever Icelanders made this marker to indicate the position of the current arctic circle. Every so often the reposition it. No easy task since it is about 10 or 12 feet in diameter! There's a hole cut through it to show alignment with the North Pole. And, an enquiring mind might ask how someone goes about moving this concrete behemoth. Well, I did. Turns out it is hollow and filled with styrofoam peanuts. Or, so told me by the proprietor of "The Store".
