What a treat! When I got off the ferry I learned that the Great Fish Day started Friday evening with free fish soup served in 20 or so homes around the city. If you see two torches burning outside a house, just walk in.
This family was very well to do and had a beautiful home.
Most of their family was there, I was about the only non family, but the event just started and I got in on the ground floor. These servers don't own the house, just helping out.
The fish soup in the kettles is like a southeast Asian curried soup with lemongrass, curry, fish sauce and kaffir leaves. It was very excellent!
They also gave me a slice of Icelandic fermented and dried sheep. I liked it better than Faroese as it was salted and smoked. Not quite as dry as Faroese.
I had the opportunity to have lengthy visits with several of the family members. A lot of fun.
