When I start a longer trek there's usually a little trepidation and pinging of nerves as I wonder what I've gotten myself into this time. This trek is to the wilds of the Faroe Islands. A lot of folks haven't heard about this remote set of islands, so the map to the right may help you visualize the location. In the North Sea roughly midway between the land if Ice and Norway.
The Faroe Islands have a somewhat tough, sad and long history. Many countries in that part of the world have laid claim to the islands, and the Faroese have remarkably been able to maintain their culture and language thoughout the turbulent times of conquest. The Faroes are currently a nation within the Danish Government.
There aren't many people living in the Faroes, maybe 50k. 50% live in the capital of Torshavn. There are twice as many sheep as people in the country, so the trails will probably be like England with lots of mucky bits all over.
I'll be writing a more detailed entry about the history of the Faroe Islands with links to articles I found interesting.
And, I hope this trek is more about being a traveler than a tourist.

Julie Hodgetts Wow, have a fabulous time. I don't know anyone who has been so looking forward to hearing all about it. We almost went 2 years ago on the way from Denmark to Iceland by ferry. But the ferry was so expensive we flew and missed our opportunity to visit the beautiful Faroes.
Chris Sinclair Looking forward to reading all about the trek Jim, and if you make another film like the one of your C-2-C trek I've no doubt Julie and I will be among the first to view it. Have a great experience.
