There are two peaks just above the peaks, Ritubergsnova and Midagsfjall. Sine Eva affectionately nicked named me some form of Estonian mountain goat, I had to live out my destiny and hike up both. This panorama is from the grassy top of Ritubergsnova and shows all of the western islands. I'm finally getting a little more perspective of the compactness of the Faroe Islands. This peak is 376 meters. Midagsfjall is 343 meters. All is well with the world!

The hike in was only 4 or 5km, but the view was fantastic, as you can see. It appears that much of the Faroes are contained by cliffs, with lots of nesting sea birds. Vertigo is a given, and any number of interested tourists have found out how steep the cliffs are as they take the Valhalla Plunge.

My eyes blinked open at 5am this morning, so I took advantage of this and took a gander at the portal.fo webcams. Still a little dicey weather everywhere, but it looked like a village named Midvagur was the least overcast. I rushed through breakfast and packed up gear...so quickly in fact I left my satellite transponder on the desk charging. Oh, well...punt! And, wonder if wonders, the city bus actually picked me up and hauled me to the ferry/bus terminal. Save...

The Norse gods of weather took pity on a lonely Montana boy, trying to find his way in the world, by raining down upon him about 20 minutes of sunshine. Enough to bring a smile, sorta dry out my boots and give some modest assurances that not every day in the Faroes looks as bleak as a foggy winter day in Polson.

Dinner on the return of the ferry was really good for a modest 80kr. That's not mustard, but hilbo's favorite curry flavored mayo. It would have been even better with a pilsner to moderate the fog.
