After an early morning wake up from a kind considerate Swedish girl at 5.30am and 7am pancake breakfast we were all a little tired but got the lunch time bus to Agnes Water/Town of 1770, a mere 6 hours! Arrived Sunday 28th February 2010 at 6.10pm, free pick up from bus stop to our hostel Cool Bananas! One of the best hostels we have stayed in so far, big 8 bed dorms, super clean, huge fully equipped kitchen, chill out areas, TV and loads of DVD's, and FREE TEA AND COFFEE!! Town itself is pretty small, Agnes Water and 1770 are 7km apart and 1770 only has 69 residents!
Day 2 here- small world! One of the new arrivals in our dorm room is a girl from York and she is friends with Sarah Boorman who me and Jimmy went to college with and we have previously met her on a night out (Jimmy's birthday 2 years ago when he was very drunk and we nearly got chucked out of Vodka revs!) a girl called Katie who Sarah played hockey with! Very random and can't believe how small a world it is! They were only staying for one night and then heading south.
We spent some time at Agnes Water beach but was cloudy at times so didn't seem quite as nice as some of the other beaches we have seen so far! Still super hot and humid though! Bit of rain but as we are British we stuck it out and sat in it till it cleared in the end! We certainly made the most of the free tea and coffee at the hostel and really chilled out!
Unfortunately the weather did not improve and my birthday was a wash out! Chucked it down all day long so felt a bit like home but without all my friends and family :( but thank you to everyone who sent me a birthday message or even sent a card it was much appreciated and pleased we are gone but not completely forgotten!
We had a free tour with the hostel to the town of 1770 in the rain, so we got to see both places but not much at 1770 and a shame the tour guide we had was as charasmatic as a pencil!!Highlight of my day was some Tim Tams!! and a birthday rainy beach walk where Jimmy attempted to write Happy Birthday in the sand before we got completely soaked!
Our last day at Agnes Water was a fairly stressful unfortunately due to the lovely weather which didn't stop raining all day and night we were advised the road had flooded and the bus may not be able to get through to pick us up! Not what we wanted to hear when we had booked our Whitsundays trip for the following day which was none refundable and changeable!! At $400.00 each this was not going to be good for our budget! After a day of worrying like crazy we were told at 6pm the bus at 9pm would make it though thank god! We amused ourselves throughout the day watching DVD's and I managed to read an entire book I found at the hostel - 400 pages long called the Big Bad Wolf!!! A lovely story about crazy chatrooms and women being sold to crazy men and being murdered!!! The bus arrived at 9pm and we only had to take a 2 hour detour back to Bundaberg then we were on our way and arrived at 9am after a 12 hour bus journey we were only 2 hours late and were all ready to go to the Whitsundays! We arrived at Airlie Beach/Whitsundays in one piece at least and to glorious sunshine!!
