As we upload this we are making the most of 'happy hour' with Angkor beers in a Phnom Penh bar! We are in Cambodia, which is a much poorer country than Malaysia, recovering from our 3-day full-on touring of some of the Angkor's temples outside Siem Reap. It's been an amazing experience and certainly rates as one of the highlights of the trip; it lived up to all our expectations. Hopefully the photos on the blog will give you an impression of just a few of the things we saw.
Our last week in Malaysia was spent partly in Malacca and partly in Kuala Lumpur (KL). They were both quite different but both share the variety of culture which is Malaysia. We spent quite a bit of the time in Malacca in Chinatown appreciating the variety of architecture and the food including cendol, a dessert made of green beans, kidney beans, coconut, palm sugar and shaved ice! In KL we visited the Petronas Towers (which were overtaken as the tallest buildings in the world in 2003) but didn't the get the view we'd hoped for because of the haze. We had fun in the bazaars though, especially with the fish massage and visited the inside of the national mosque which required Fran to become Obi Fran Kenobi (see the photos!).
We are planning to make for the Cambodian coast next and then expect to head for the Mekong Delta and Vietnam - but our plans are pretty flexible at the moment so this could change.
