Arrived in Philip Island about an hour and half drive from Melbourne where we would stay for the weekend in a holiday home. There was 11 or us in a 3 bedroomed house but was cosy (I think)
We went into Cowes, the main shopping area and got some lunch and looked around the shops. We then went back to the house to wrap up warm as we were going to the Nobby's which is a viewing point into the bay where there were some huge rocks and the 'blow hole' where water goes 12 metres into a hole and then comes back out of the hole at an incredible force- very picturesque!!
We then went back to the house where we had an hour break and 5 of us made our way to see the Penguins. There were hundreds nad hundreds of people there. You pay to get in and then finds a space on the tiered concrete steps overlooking the beach and waterfront. You then wait for the Little Penguins (formely, Fairy Penguins) to arrive full of fish to feed their young. It was so sweet- some of them were not confident enough to make there way to their homes so jumped back into the water. This goes on for about an hour. The colony is 6000 strong!! You can them walk along the boardwalks and watch them walking towards their burrows!! It was a really great night- sorry, no photos- they wearnt allowed! Although that didnt stop the hundreds of Chinese doing it!!
