This morning we walked around the plaza in the bracing morning air. It was Sunday and a group marched along, drums banging and flags flying, into the Cathedral.
We travelled from the airport back across the Andes to Lima before arriving on the coast at Miraflores. We were too early to check in, but they gave us an upgrade to a "junior suite" and we checked in. Woo hoo! That never happens.
This area is such a contrast to the places in Peru we have visited so far. It is obvious where the tourists and the more affluent spend their time.
We went to the local shopping mall which is built into the cliff face below road level overlooking the ocean. Lots of the usual shops found all over the world and multiple places to eat with a water view. So we picked one. Fantastic view although Lima has a layer of low lying clouds in winter, so although sunny and about 23 degrees it looks foggy.
The cliffs can be up to 80 metres high and the beach consists of two strips. The first which runs along the roadway looks like brickies sand and the second running to the water is the usual pebbles. Not a patch on Australia!
We had a quick look around the shops after lunch and noticed a low lying hang glider cutting across the shopping centre and cliff tops.
We returned to the hotel where we lazed around for a bit. Anthony watched some Formula 1 and half a movie (it got a bit nasty) and we went to the bar downstairs to use our free drink voucher. At 7:00 pm Anthony complained he was tired and wanted to go to sleep. I did mention that he hadn't done anything strenuous all day so he shouldn't be tired...that made a lot of difference and he rolled over.
