It was only a short drive to reach the NT border, although we still had 500 km ahead of us. Again, the land was hundreds of kilometres of plain. Not far along from the 3 ways we stopped for the night at Banka Banka Homestead. We were greeted warmly and the boys were given an icypole each. They set off exploring the surrounds, finding two donkeys (Don-Key and Jenny) to feed carrots to, and a new Brahman calf. After it had cooled down a little they set to playing footy on a rare patch of grass. We then all walked up the rocky hill behind the Homestead to watch the sun set.
Next morning we hit the road for Daly Waters, stopping in Elliot for morning tea, as we did 4 years earlier. Unfortunately, one of our favourite campsites from the last trip, Longreach Waterhole, just out of Elliot, is now closed.
Daly Waters
We looooooved coming back to Daly Waters! Apart from a few improvements such as a new pool and extra amenities, it was if we had never left. However, we could not find our thong from 2015!
The boys had a great swim in the pool while Ben and I chatted to other travellers and then they enjoyed a slushie and a sunbake. After a relaxing peruse of the huge amount of memorabilia and tourist paraphernalia inside the pub, we showered and prepared for ‘Happy Hour’ and the Beef and Barra dinner in the gorgeous beer garden. Dinner did not disappoint!! Will discovered his new favourite fish and found it difficult to eat it without shovelling it in rudely, he found it soooo delicious, lol!!! The two singers were lovely and very kindly waited until we had left before one started the Kevin Bloody Wilson songs! Although, that was pointless as we could hear it from the van, lol!
