The Islands were the place i was looking forward to coming to most in Thailand. Everyone has said to me they are great so my excitement levels were like they were when i used to be allowed up late to watch Match of the Day as a kid!
The journey there was another fine example of the travel 'qualities' they have in Thailand!! We booked a mini van to Krabi town which had too many people on it so 2 of the passengers had to hang of the back and all the backpacks hslung on the roof!! it wa shilarious.. added to that the driver was a frickin maniac.. lucky it was only a short jouney!! here we swapped to a coach to take us to the port in suratani.. this driver didnt have a clue and got lost 3-4 time getting there so took aaaaages!! as you may imagine after the previous experiences my tollerance levels wee getting stretched. anyway we finally arrive only to find out weve got another bus to catch to get to the port.. thats okay, not long to go i thought!! 3 hours later the bus picked us up.. thae last driver had been so slow wed missed the connection.. bejuses i could have turned into the Hulk by then but as everyone else was as pissed off as me and knowing what happened to me the last time i got hit i thought better of it!!
Anyway the bus got us and the ferry was leaving in 45 minutes and the journey should have taken 55! you do the maths!! Thank god we had Michael Schumaker driving... he scared the living s*** out of me taking corners on 2 wheels occationally and everyone just got thrown around this old booted bus!! i think we got there with 1 minute to spare.. fair play.. so we got onto the ferry to koh Pha Ngan we all hit the bar!! As if to confirm today was not our day. .the boat trip took ages as well.. 12 hours to travel about 180 miles!! It was worth it though as we got a taxi to hat yao on the north of the island along this windy road through trees and lakes onto a dirt track to our resort. checked into these amazing huts in the hillside close to the beach!! idilic!!!!
That was until the next morning when the cockerels starting chirping at dawn and the builders started work on the new complex next door! at least it got us up early!!
Hat Yao is another quiet resort with a lovely beach and beach huts all along the front. We stayed at a place Helen had been to before because of the food they served there... it was lush!! spicy fish cakes and amazing curries. it was heaven eating here and boy did my belly suffer for it.
As Ronan says 'life is a roller coaster' and i soon found that here.. on the second day here i got out a moped to drive round the island. it was a crappy little thing with about as much power alarm clock!! the road out of the resort is dirt track and of course i took the wrong turning.. ended up sliding and skidding down this potholed road lost and stalled the bloody thing!! could i restart the thing?? could i f*ck!! it was baking as well and i was in the wilderness, no shop, houses or anything around!! i had to push this bike back up the wrecked track before the bloody thing would start.. i manged to get through the minefield and onto tarmac!! ahh bliss!! drove around and looked at some of the sights around. the weather closed it so i got this hairdryer to go as fast as i could back to safety before the rain got on the dirt track as id have been right up s*** alley without a paddle if i hadnt!! just made!!
That evening we went to a 'chill bar' on the beach and joined in the local festivities and Jo got propositiond by some swingers.. they said to her 'she'd do' and she needed to come back to there room.. time to go we decided!! Jos luck didnt improve the next day either as she was sat on the beach and a dog came up behind her and p!ssed on her back!! i think i wet myself laughing so much!!
It was the King of Thailinds birthday on the 5th and its huge. Millions watch on the tv, its a holiday and everyone wears yellow! so i did and it turned out to be my lucky colour as broke my travelling duck with a girl from Australia!! No details necessary!!
The next day was the full moon party on the other side of the island so me Jo and Helen went there. We got a bottle of sansong rum each in the afternoon and by the time we even got there we were very messy!! the party is in the beach at Had Rin we agreed before we would get a bucket of Rum and coke each when we got there.. bad move!! we were there half hour completely wasted when Jo got her leg bitten by a dog!! she was too drunk to feel it! after a while we called a it a night so (like you do) we went for a paddle that turned into oaking each other.. only problem was my phone fell out somewhere in the sea!! tw*t!! I sulked out of the water and into an open air taxi with some locals and to complete my misery one of the locals knicked my camera out of pocket on the way back!! i didnt realise till hed got out but my then it was too late.. cue mega paddy!! We got home and i sulked off to my room! i was sat wondering where the girls had got to when i could hear a humming sound and laughter a couple of hundered meters away so i wondered down there to see what was going on. I walked along his path and about 20 meters in front were Jo and Helen on a stolen Golf Buggy coming straight at me! dont think they even saw me so i jumped out the way and they just sped around this complex for ages before stacking it into a bush!! it was hilarious but it couldnt get rid of mysulk.. bloody roller coasters!!
Had a quite few days after that and headed off to Koh Samui, the next island up..
