Well ive been lazy so thought its about time i update this site.. so forgive the lack of info as itsthe brain isnt as functional as it once was!! After my initial introduction to Bangkok i spend another 3 nights there.. Bangkok really wasa bizzare place.. it sounds nice, has got a reputation of being lively but in all honesty all the backpackers just stay on one road and dont venture far from it.. they are as skinny as me.. er ok.. maybe when i was 12.. but the locals eat.. and eat.. and eat.. god knows where it all goes but i suspect the sewage system is still so old there because they couldnt cope with the amount of toilet visits the locals must make!!
After my brush with the law i thougth it best that i join in the local obsession so started plunging myself into the food that is everywhere.. some real tasty then you will see a store with fried scorpions, worms, and widgedygrub like things.. dont think my stella belly is ever going to be ready for that lot!! still i became hooked on thai curries and thai soups and walking up and down koh san road.. buying cheap imitation clothes (which havent lasted too long) and gettting used to saying no thankyou to every thai person trying to sell you a wooden frog or the like.. it really does p!s you off after a while!!
we did meet a friend of helens from Thailinad called Song who gave us a bit of a tour of Bangkok.. nice chap who laughed at his own jokes alot.. mm sounds familiar!! he took us to the stinky river in bangkok where fish in there hundreds fight like Tutes over a little bit of bread.. song also declared his love for Steve Irwin and almost cried infont of us talking about him and how we had to put soem flowers on his grave in oz!! okay!!!!
i managed to dodge the angry owner of our appartments as well while some stealth moves as i had promised him id move out after our previous altercations!! dream on mate.. paying 2 pound a night i wasnt going anywhere!!
had a look around the temples and stuff there too to do the tourist bits which involves crossing the busiest road in asia i reckon.. was stood there like a lemon for about 20 minutes before closing my eyes and hoping for the best.. one lively place thailind but was pleased to be moving onto Kanchanburi..
Kanchanaburi is west of bagkok and it famous for one thing.. the Bridge over the River Kwai.. i love that film so had to go and see if they bew it up everyday as a tourist attraction.. sadly not.. you get there on a rickety old train which goes through the suburbs of Bangkok first which was grim to say the least.. corrigated iron shelters really and washing hanging out everwhere in there 2ft square gardens.. you realise how poor it is in some places there.. anyway after a couple of hours on the train where the buffet involves random people getting on and off the train at different stops with a tray of thai delicacies.. only problem is we didnt have a scooby what they were so despite pains of hunger i didnt facy biting into sheeps eye or whatever it was..
Kanchanaburi was lovely.. the Bridge was nothing like the one in the film but i didnt care.. i could walk on it and did the 'Marching whistle' as i crossed it.. its very narrow and quite easy to fall through or off the side so when the fat American tourists came towards me from the other way and turned round to avoid being bounced over the edge!!
stayed in a nice hut by the river and enjoyed the relaxed backdrop.. we also went to the waterfalls at erawin Park an hour away.. seven waterfalls climbed, a mile to get to the top one, great un swimming in them except a bit slippy as i found going arse over tit a couple of times!! jumped off one of them as well. .how brave i thought till i saw 6 of them do it headfirst at the same time!!
Did a bit of history and sightseeing in Kanchanaburi.. it was a POW camp in the war and lots of Brits died there so visited the cemetry and one of the camps to pay my respects.. although in the cemetry it was so hot me and jo got under the sprinkler watering the lawn.. not quite as respectful but need must!! of course we had the obligitory p!ss up one nigth here and got spangled.. we came out of the bar at 5am (the ones still up apart from the owner who was asleep waiting for us to leave) and came out to a terrential rain storm which promted a dance home in the rain!!
Kanchanaburi was great, loved it so next onto the south of thailand so back to Bangkok for the train down.
