Day 8 - Monday 8th April 2013 (Travelled 273.2 kms)
Waking up to the vista of Picnic Beach, it being a cool morning and the day of rest (from walking), it was shaping up to be another beautiful day. Ralph and Billy went fishing first up this morning, Ralph catching a decent sized flathead and Billy catching a mullet. Turns out that this is a good spot for fishing and Billy has been a great mentor for the boys teaching them all about surf fishing.
Heading off, stopping at Elliston for fuel and provisions and then had pumpkin soup and wood fired bread (which we purchased from a roadside kiosk at Colton - an honesty box payment). So off the highway at Talia towards a coastal drive taking in Woolshed Cave, Tahlia Cave and The Tub. This is an extraordinary coastline along here and the scenery is spectacular. Further along the road we travelled to Baird Bay for an overnight stop but it was a small campsite with many others already taking up residence. So we moved onto Sceale Bay where we stopped at the Sceale Bay Bush Camp. Flushing toilet and a pump action shower were attractions! We cooked all the fish and enjoyed this feast around a campfire. The camp area cost $6 per head for the night of which $2 went to the local Country Fire service. The CFS was established in 2009 and they were fund raising for a new truck.
