This here is a probably endangered turtle species. The question is, did the merchant hear of that and/or does he care?
- The economy of the jungle seems to me to be somewhat different: It obviously requires some knowledge, skill and effort to get the fruits and roots out of the jungle, likewise to hunt and fish. Then on the market you either have something which sells or your efforts have been in vain this time. Next time when you go into the jungle, you'll probably look for something that you know meets a demand. Sooner or later you will have figured it out, how to serve the market best. Main producer and provider though remains eventually the jungle. You don't have to worry like the farming producer, that your product is harmed by weather or when ready for sale after a year of efforts you have put into it, doesn't meet a demand any longer. (As a side note: Here is where futures become a necessity). Your next shot is a day or two, in some cases maybe a week or two, away. But whatever it might be, it is not a year. And the sheer available variety of goods often allows for a non compete situation, hence being on the market with your product is an unique selling point already. - So relax and take it easy, the jungle takes care for you. - This should describe what I saw in the faces and the habitus of these merchant when walking over this market.
