After 155 km I arrived at the Argentinian border. How does that matter? Well, I drove the distance three times, that's why. And here is how it happened: It was actually unavoidable considering that you leave Chile at the Aduana station in San Pedro and enter Argentina at the Paso de Jama, which are 155 km apart from each other. Now if you are told in Argentina only that your car documents are incomplete, you have to return to square one, which is in Chile. - It's not that i wasn't somewhat prepared, having the necessary additional insurance for Argentina already on me; nor that I didn't asked a customs officer, if everything were okay, when I left the Aduana station in San Pedro and he confirmed; and I wouldn't contribute the misunderstanding to my Spanish language skills only, it was what I wanted to hear. - Whatever, I now had to return to get the papers straight. Since it was already late in the afternoon I'd better hurry, if I wanted to cross the border today. Well, I did it back and forth in a bit over 90 minutes for each section, which is an accomplishment considering the challenging routing; but that little pickup truck with its 2.5 lt. turbo diesel engine runs 180 on the straight, if you let run. And you've to cut some corners too. - in San Pedro I got the missing document, without any further hassle. But no wonder that they make such a fuss out of it, it's a quad copy! And I had to leave the first copy in San Pedro already and the second then at the Paso, each station applying the appropriate stamp. When I return to Chile I'll have depleted them all. Jeez! Needless to say, that I crossed the border with the complete set of documents with no trouble. This is just the short version of the events.
