Our arrival in Kuala Lumpur was all a bit manic really. As we had got the night bus, which by the way was very comfortable and luxurious in comparison to the Indian busses, I had fallen asleep. We were woken by the driver running up to the back of the bus telling us we had reached our stop. It was 5 in the morning and rushing around sleepily trying to gather our belongings proved tricky. However we got off the bus finding ourselves in KL surrounded by taxi drivers all wanting to take us to our hostel.

Once at our hostel we decided it would best to stay awake and visit the Petrona Towers that very morning. Only a certain number of people are allowed up the towers per day so at just after 7 o clock we joined the queue to make sure we were 2 of those people! Sure enough we got up onto the skywalk. This is the part that joins the 2 towers together. It was pretty cool to go up there. There were amazing views on either side of KL.

We powered on through and after the help of a good breakfast we visited a temple -where we were made to cover up completely - looked ridiculous (sure it was for their own amusement), visited the central market and took a general wander around the nearby areas. I must say I love the skytrain. Its so modern and futuristic. Although it is a little scary when it goes round a corner and tips to the side.

By the late afternoon we were in much need of a power nap. We made it back to our hostel and didn't rise for another 3 hours or so. That evening we did manage to head back out and visit a huuuge shopping centre. This shopping centre had about 10 floors, an imax cinema and a theme park inside. Couldn't believe it.

We spent the next few days hopping on and off the monorails and sky train visiting the various sights around KL. The Batu Caves were really interesting and I would say well worth the clamber up the 271 steps. We also managed to fit in a little Christmas shopping. Well that was the presents we bought for each other which were to cost no more than a fiver. Do you know how difficult it is finding something for that price which is useful in travelling and does not take up very much space - bearing in mind its to fit in our already full backpacks. There were 10 floors to this centre yet we still managed to keep bumping into each other!

More importantly while in KL we managed to get somewhere organised for Christmas. We got some recommendations from some fellow travellers on a good hostel in Langkawi. As most of the eastern side of Malaysia is in high rains at the moment we decided it would be best to fly up north. We manged to get some cheap flights to Langkawi. We were so relieved. Planning Christmas had turned into a nightmare. We actually began thinking we may end up homeless and on the streets for Christmas day. Managing to actually get somewhere booked was quite a relief.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed KL. At first I thought it would be really strange moving on to another country. Indeed it is completely different but I love how friendly the people are and I love that I can trust what people are saying and know they are not lying to us. It was good to be somewhere completely different yet again. KL was a lot more modern that I had expected. I loved at night how it was all lit up. The Petrona Towers especially looked amazing and me and Lauren spent lots of time making sure we got the perfect photos of them.
